The Hong Kong based manufacturer TECNO has recently revealed HiOS 5.5 skin for it’s smartphones. The new HiOS 5.5 skin bags several new features and performance improvement and better battery management.
Tecno HiOS 5.5 debuted on the recently launched Camon 12 device, and has been reaching other newly launched TECNO phones like Spark 4 phantom 9 among others. TECNO HiOS may not be has great the popular MIUI skin by Xiaomi, but you’ll definitely find the new improvements in the TECNO skin useful.
HiOS 5.5 delivers an immersive experience while bringing creativity with augmented reality, it improves the overall phone experience and also helps users to be more productive at the same time.
Tecno HiOS 5.5 Exclusive Features
Android itself has introduced a number of new features following the release of the new Android OS. Often time new features in the Android OS reaches the Google pixel devices first and manufacturers are slowly adopting this features to their devices.

1. Bring Art to Life with Augmented Reality
HiOS 5.5 features an AR Virtual Canvas that is essentially futuristic finger painting. Many sculptors refer to their hands as a tool — and HiOS 5.5 allows you to turn your fingers into sculptural brushes that you can use to paint in midair.
Just by aiming your device camera at an object, you can paint or spray on any place in reality within multiple spaces with awesome brushes, emojis, animations, and stickers.
2. Gesture Call Picker: Cool New Way to respond to calls
HiOS 5.5 introduces a new ability to answer and end calls with simple fingers and palm gestures without having to physically touch your phone. Well, I really have no opinion as regards to this feature, although it a nice update, i think i’m fine with the swipe to pick we’re already used to.
The new gesture call picker will allow you to simultaneously use your hands for other things like eating or washing clothes while also being able to conveniently answer important calls without touching your phone.
But really how am i supposed to pick a call when i’m washing if the device is in my pocket? The gesture call picker will only work with the device in front of you, but why do you need to stress yourself using your second hand for gesture, just to pick when you can just swipe with the same hand you’re holding the device with.
All the same, you can simply just use “V” gesture to answer the phone or wave your palm above your phone screen to reject the calls.
3. A Faster and Immersive Game Experience
HiOS 5.5 tries to improve gaming experience by introducing a dedicated Game Mode. With game mode activated, intrusive notification will be blocked while gaming and reduce distraction.
HiOS 5.5 also gives you the ability to remain on your screen without pausing your game and still reply chats and messages with floating windows without interrupting gameplay.
You can also quickly go online to view game guides all while still remaining on your game screen.
Seamlessly enjoy heavy CPU power consuming games by boosting memory, turn on Wi-fi exclusively for the game, switch data sim card and more in-game without disrupting or exiting your game.
4. Closed Eye Detection
Face recognition technology has been vastly upgraded on HiOS 5.5 so it can help you secure your phone in a more intelligent and smarter way.
The newly improved Face ID 2.0 is more intelligent and can detect eye-status of open, closed or sideways not only frontal faces but also for rotated or tilted head poses.
5. The smarter way to Reach your Favorite Tools
HiOS 5.5 comes with an upgrade to the Smart Panel, a shortcut capability that allows you to access any app or use any tool on your phone from any screen.
You can get things done faster by simply swiping right on any screen to access your favorite feature.
You can easily snap a selfie or record a video from any screen without having to locate the camera app.
HiOS 5.5 also allows you to have the Hi Translate tool handy which means you can smartly translate an unfamiliar language to your language without having to leave your current screen.
6. FingerPrint Reset Password
This is one of the biggest feature to come with the Tecno HiOS 5.5 skin. Sometime ago i forget may pattern and although i use the fingerprint lock, I find myself using the pattern security lock the most.
I couldn’t just remember my pattern, it was as if something wiped it off my head but thanks to the fingerprint lock, i could still make use of my phone. However, with the pattern security out of play it wasn’t satisfied and their was no means to reset the password, as resetting the pattern requires the pattern.
My only option was to completely format my phone to reset the pattern, however, with the new HiOS 5.5 that is no longer a problem, you can easily reset your lost password or pattern using the fingerprint reset password feature.
Conclusion
TECNO HiOS 5.5 is undoubtedly a great update, but i think TECNO can improve more on the UI side. We really would love to have a HiOS that can theme the device UI like MIUI, ONE UI etc.
