The first public beta for macOS 12 Monterey can now be downloaded on eligible devices.

The first public beta of the upcoming macOS Monterey (macOS 12) has been released for developers and Apple fans who wishes to get the first-hand experience of the new macOS on their devices. Alongside macOS 12, Apple also released the first public beta of its upcoming iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 for iPhones and iPads as well as new TVOS and WatchOS.

How to Install macOS 12 Monterey Public Beta?

  • First off, visit the official Apple beta software program website.
  • If you’re not already a member, sign up for the beta program using your Apple ID.
  • After signing up, scroll down a bit, you find a link under the ‘Get Started‘ header to enrol your device.
  • Now, click on “Enroll Your Devices” and you’ll be redirected to another page.
  • On the new page, scroll down and look for “Download the macOS Public Beta Access Utility.” You’ll find it under the “Enrol Your Mac” header.
  • Download the beta access utility onto your device. It will be a .DMG file.
  • Before opening the beta access utility file you just downloaded on your Mac, it is advisable to take a backup of your device.
  • Once your enrollment is complete, you’ll get a “software update” notification from the System preferences.
  • Click on “Upgrade Now” to download macOS 12 Monterey beta version.
  • After the macOS Monterey beta update has been downloaded, the OS install will pop up, click continue and follow the on-screen instruction to install the newly downloaded macOS.
  • You’ll be asked to reboot to complete the installation once done.
