If you’re a keyboard addict and would still prefer to use a physical qwerty keyboard smartphone in 2020, then, the Astro Slide 5G phone would be a very good option.

Physical qwerty keyboard phone used to be a thing in the smartphone space, I once used the HTC G1 myself and a Windows slide phone, but as technology advances, manufactures didn’t find a need for a physical keyboard in new generation smartphones, since we can have the keyboard on our phone’s screen while also reducing the weight of smartphones.

Astro Slide features a 6.53-inch display with no specific ratio or resolution and has slim bezels on the top and bottom. Being a slider phone give the phone two modes, the conventional mode and a desktop mode when the device is used a palmtop-like mode.

To make the device keyboard visible for easy use at night, the company has added backlit functionality. But there’s no front-facing camera.

While Astro Slide runs Android 10 operating system out of the box, it offers multi-boot/dual boot feature for Linux-based mobile OS such as Sailfish or Kali alongside Android.

The device houses a single camera, a 48-megapixel camera mounted on the rearview. However, the camera configuration is unknown. The device promises to deliver an immersive audio experience through its stereo speakers.

The Astro Slide 5G Transformer is powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 1000 5G chipset that supports dual-mode 5G but lacks support for mmWave. It is paired with 6 GB of RAM, 128GB native storage all fueled by a 4,000mAh battery.

Other features include a fingerprint reader, a microSD card slot, pair of USB-C ports, dual nano-SIM slots, e-SIM support, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, NFC and 3.5mm audio jack.

As of now, Astro Slide 5G Transformer is listed for crowdfunding on Indiegogo. Early-bird buyers can get the device for as low as $544 (approx N200,000). The device is expected to bein shipment in March 2021 and will retail at around $907 (approx N330,000).
