ASUS has finally launched the successor to its 2019 Zenfone 6 flagship device, the ZenFone 7 series which includes two devices at an event in Taiwan. The Zenfone 7 and 7 Pro device features a full edge to edge notch-less display with high refresh rates and continues with Asus flip camera tradition. The devices come with the latest Snapdragon mobile platform processor 64MP triple cameras and huge batteries that comes with fast charging support.
The Zenfone 7 series is the latest flagship device from Asus and the device stand to compete against the likes of the Huawei P40, Samsung S20, Note 20, Mi 10 Ultra and other flagship devices that have launched in 2020 so far.
ASUS ZenFone 7 and ZenFone 7 Pro specifications and features
The ZenFone 7 and 7 pro are built around a 6.67-inch AMOLED display that offers a 20:9 aspect ratio, Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels, and a 90Hz refresh rate. The screen can produce up to 700nits brightness and features Delta-E<1color accuracy, DC dimming, HDR10+, and Gorilla Glass 6 protection.
Both device do not have a front-facing camera, instead, it uses the flippable rear camera for selfies like the Zenfone 6. The flip-up camera module on the ZenFone 7 and ZenFone 7 Pro houses a Sony IMX686 64-megapixel main camera with 113-degee FOV and f/1.8 aperture, and is assisted by a 12-megapixel Sony IMX686 ultrawide lens with f/2/2 aperture, and an 8-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom and 12x digital zoom support.
The camera comes with a dual-LED flash and can record 120fps slow-motion video recording, and up to 8K video recording at 30fps. Although both devices uses the same camera, the ZenFone 7 Pro will capture more details becuase the main lens and the telephoto shooter are equipped with 4-axis OIS while the base model only features 4-axis OIS for the main camera.
The flip-up camera’s mechanism on the ZenFone 7 series has a liquid metal housing and it’s powered by a new motor module for greater weight endurance. The flip-up cameras also come with an angle sensor that can make it stay at pre-defined angles while shooting photos.

The ZenFone 7 runs Snapdragon 865 Soc with up to 8GB LPDDR5 RAM, 128 GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The ZenFone 7 Pro, however, is powered by the most recent Snapdragon 865 Plus mobile platform paired with 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM, 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage. Both devices come with microSD card slots for additional storage.
The ZenFone 7 series comes preinstalled with the latest ZenUI 7 based Android 10 OS and fueled by 5,000mAh batteries that support 30W HyperCharge fast charge technology via USB Type-C port and 27W Quick Charge 4.0 by Qualcomm. It also supports 18W USB Power Delivery.
Other features include stereo speakers, triple microphones, side-facing fingerprint sensors, face recognition, dual SIM support, 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, dual-frequency GPS, and NFC. These devices, however, lack support for 3.5mm audio jack.
ASUS ZenFone 7 and ZenFone 7 Pro pricing and availability
The ZenFone 7 series will be available in Aurora Black and Pastel White colour options. The 6GB/128GB variant is priced at ~$749 (NGN 289,653) and the 8GB/128GB variant is priced at ~$817 (NGN 315,950). The ZenFone 7 Pro, on the other hand, is priced at costs ~$1,020 (NGN 394,454).
The devices are available in Taiwan, however, there is no word on when it will go global. The retail package includes a ruggedized Active Case that helps in protecting the camera bump.
