New Corning Gorilla Glass 6 Will Let Your Smartphone Survive 15 Drops

American glassmaker Corning recently unveiled its newest glass technology. According to the company, the new Gorilla Glass 6 has the toughness to survive repeated drops from a height of 1 meter (3.28 feet) up to 15 drops.

Corning Gorilla Glass 6 Is More Durable

At a press event at Corning’s new Sunnyvale California, technology centre, the company’s executive said, while normal glass failed on the first drop test, the Gorilla Glass 6 lasted through 15 drops.

Corning’s Gorilla Glass 6 scratch resistance remains the same as its predecessor, the Gorilla Glass 5 and it promises to be much tougher and will thus more effectively protect smartphones and their screens.

Basically, the new substrate is designed for devices which use glass mainly for it enclosure surface and its expected to be best-fit devices with an 18:9 aspect ratio or 19:9.

The Gorilla Glass 6 is already in production and available to manufacturers. it’s expected to appear on next-generation smartphones in the coming months.
