Google Android P to be Officially Launched This Week at Google I /O 2018

Google’s annual I/O developer conference 2018 has started and there is a great sense of excitement among fans. The conference is ongoing at Shoreline Amphitheatre, Mountain View, California. The conference includes keynotes, sessions, and musical functions. Google Android P, of course, will be the star of the show at the Google IO 2018 conference. This will include some new features along with cosmetic changes that Android P will bring along.

At the developer conference, Google is expected to unveil a bunch of new features to its existing apps and some amongst the new ones as well. The highlight of the event will be Android P, the companies latest OS update. Google already highlighted four big changes to be expected in the Android P official release which are:

1. Revamped Design

Google is giving its Android’s general look and feels, a Material Design makeover, opting for more minimalist lines, circular icons, and newly redesigned UI elements from the dock to the notification and quick settings pane.

2. App Actions

Google is introducing a number of smarter A.I powered features, one of which is the App Actions. The new feature called App Actions will display previous things users have done in apps into “suggested tasks” that show up in the app drawer. In other words, App Actions can predict the “next action you want to take.”

3. Digital Wellbeing

Google is adding a new dashboard called Digital Wellbeing. this feature will show you the time you spend on your smartphones, individual apps, and also the ways you’re using them. If an app becomes addicting, you can set yourself a time limit using the App timer. In addition, Android P introduces an automatic “wind down” mode that’ll automatically switch your device to grayscale mode when it gets close to bedtime. Also, there’s a do-not-disturb mute option that’s activated when a phone is placed facedown.

4. Gesture Navigation

Google is replacing its three-button navigation control with a key element borrowed from the Apple iPhone X – a gesture-based navigation to its mobile operating system.

Now, viewing your recent apps and app drawer will be done by swiping up. Yes, both actions will be through a swipe up gesture.

The back button is now contextual, which simply means it’ll only show up in apps. And you’ll swipe across the home line to switch between open apps (much like the iPhone X). This feature seems to be the most significant change to the Android P because it changes the way users navigate Android since it first launched.

Google already rolled out the first developer’s preview of the Android 9 for some devices including all Pixel devices and the OS is expected to be officially introduced at IO 2018 while Oreo update is still spreading gradually.

Some other expected features of the Google Android P Operating System:

1. Image Decoders for bitmaps and drawables.
2. Messaging style and other notification updates.
3. Multi-camera APIs.
4. Display Cutout APIs.
5. Data cost sensitivity in Job Scheduler.
6. Simplicity, speed and many new ways to extend your apps.

Google Android P is expected to be called “Android Pie” following the initial alphabetical way Google name its Android OS, especially in the name of fruits and snacks.
