HMD Global Announces New Nokia Handset Lineup, Including 5G-enabled Nokia 8.3

Covid-19 is not stopping manufactures from launching new devices as manufacturers have now switched all launching events to live stream. HMD Global has just introduced new smartphone lineups which includes a feature phone, Nokia 8.3 5G, Nokia 5.3, Nokia 1.3, and Nokia 5310 XpressMusic.

Let’s meet the new devices one after the other.

Nokia 8.3 5G

Nokia 8.3 5G is the most premium member in the lineup and the first 5G enabled Nokia device. HMD claims the Nokia 8.3 is the first global 5G smartphone with support for all global 5G networks, meaning the device has a higher number of 5G radio bands than any phone available now.

The Nokia 8.3 5G features a 6.81-inch hole punch display with a resolution of 2,400 x 1,080 and capabilities to scale SDR to HDR. It is powered by mid-range Snapdragon 765G processor, with up to 8GB of RAM,128GB of expandable storage and runs Android One based on Android 10 under the hood.

At the rear, the device houses a quad-camera setup with a 64MP primary shooter, a 12MP super wide-angle lens, a macro lens, and a depth sensor. On the front, there’s a 24MP shooter.

To render a cleaner look on the aluminium finish, the Nokia 8.3 fingerprint sensor has been embedded in the power button. The device is dual sim enabled and housed by a 4,500mAh battery. The device s expected to be released Q2 2020 for about €599 (approx N238,000).

The Nokia 5.3 renders a similar design to the Nokia 8.3, while the premium member embeds the fingerprint sensor under the power button, Nokia 5.3 places it at the rear which has been the tradition for many manufacturers.

The 6.55-inch display Nokia 5.3 is powered by Snapdragon 665 SoC, with up to 6GB of RAM, 128GB of expandable storage. It is fueled by a 4,000mAh battery, a rear quad-camera setup (13MP main, 5MP ultrawide, 2MP Macro and 2MP depth sensor), and will be available month for about €190 (approx 64,000).

Nokia 1.3 is the lowest-end device in the lineup, it features a 5.71-inch display and powered by low-end Snapdragon 215 processor. It runs Android Go with1GB of RAM, 16GB of expandable storage. The company also recently launched 4G Nokia C2 Android Go powered smartphone but unlike the Nokia C2, Nokia 1.3 is a 3G phone.

It houses an 8MP main camera, a 5MP selfie shooter and fueled by a 3,000mAh battery. it will be available for purchase next month starting at €95 (approx N38,000).

A few days ago, we hinted HMD was relaunching one of Nokia’s popular feature phone series, XpressMusic, the company has finally launched a music-focused 2.5G phone dubbed Nokia 5310. This device features two front-facing speakers, a removable 1,200mAh battery, and will be available in black and white colour while having a red bar on both sides of the screen. The device will also be available next month for about €40 (approx N16,000).
