From 2013 till now we have had the Mate Series representing really well for the Huawei brand. Starting from the Ascend Mate to Mate 10 in 2017. Before we talk about the flagship device from Huawei, let’s do some quick recap on the 2017 version of the mate series ‘ The Mate 10’.
Huawei mate 10 is that very special device with a good design. It features Huawei’s Kirin 970 chip, an octa-core processor at 4 X 2.4ghz and 4 X 1.8ghz. Yes, that’s a powerful device there, and that’s not all. 12MP rear camera, Android 8.0 upgradable to Android 9.0 Pie, 4000mAh battery and many more. Still, a very good device to purchase at this point in time.
But here we have the 2018 model of Huawei mate and there are some very commendable upgrades to our surprise. Huawei mate 20 comes in 3 different versions. The mate 20 ( the standard version), The mate 20 Pro and The mate 20X. There is also a lite version which was released earlier last month, meet the Mate 20 lite first.
Huawei Mate 20 Lite Highlight

- 3750mAh battery.
Nothing so spectacular as far as the Huawei mate 20 lite is concerned while the newer versions all boast of better features.
We can easily conclude that the Huawei mate 20 lite is as good as a Mate 10 Pro of last year but with a 3750mAh battery.
Now let’s see the differences between mate 20 X, mate 20 pro, and the regular mate 20.
Huawei Mate 20 Similarities
Note that all of these devices are expected to be released anytime soon, unlike the already released lite version. They also share similarities like same Hisilicon Kirin 980 chip octa-core processor (2xA76 @2.6GHz + 2xA76 @1.92GHz +4xA55 @1.8GHz), (Mali-G76 MP10 GPU), Android Pie 9.0 O.S (EMUI 9.0), AMOLED screen (16M colours).
All of the Huawei Mate 20 lineups are IP53 rated which is not good enough for a premium device. Only the Pro version is IP58 rated while the Porsche design is IP68. Remember that the world most advanced smartphone is rated IP68 for dust and water. Only the Pro and Porsche versions have its fingerprint sensor underneath the display too.
Huawei Mate 20 X
Mate 20 X is a 7.2 inches device packed alongside a 5000mAh battery. The device comes with 6GB/128GB memory while it is IP53 rated. IP ratings mean a device’s resistance rating against dust and water respectively. I like to think of this device as just a Splash resistant device, not water resistant.????
40MP f/1.8 + 8MP f/2.4 OIS telephoto (80mm) + 20MP f/2.2 ultra-wide (16mm); 4K video capture, 720@960fps slow-mo, Leica branding and 24MP, f/2.0 Leica lens, Portrait Mode with live bokeh effects as for photography in a triple lens camera. We have a 5000mAh battery behind the device.
Huawei Mate 20
The next device in the order of large screens is the regular version of the mate 20. The regular mate 20 has a 6.53 inches screen as it’s major source of input and output but is fuelled by a 4000mAh Li-ion battery just like the flagship version ‘Mate 20 Pro’.
Mate 20 features a rear 12MP f/1.8 + 8MP f/2.4 telephoto (52mm) + 16MP f/2.2 ultra-wide (17mm); 4K video capture, 720@960fps slow-mo, Leica branding while selfie camera is 24MP, f/2.0 Leica lens, Portrait Mode with live bokeh effects. Not forgetting the 2D face unlock feature. 4/6GB RAM and a 128GB internal storage to accommodate files. The device memeo8is also expandable with the use of Nano SDcard.
Huawei Mate 20 Pro
Mate 20 Pro will go down as one of the biggest releases of 2018 considering the fact that Apple, Samsung already released their annual flagships in the mode of the iPhone XC Max, Samsung S9 and Galaxy Note 9 with the Stylus Pen respectively.
The Chinese device will not be available in the U.S due to political restraints and the Americans will be missing features like :
- 3D face unlocks via a facial recognition system that is similar to that of the iPhone X.
- On-screen fingerprint scanner.
- Android 9.0 from out of the box.
- A triple lens camera that intelligently tracks the subject in images. It is powered by Leica.
- The Mate 20 Pro is also Qi-compatible, which simply means you can easily charge a Samsung S9 wirelessly just by placing it over your Huawei device.
Huawei with the release of mate 20 Pro will ensure that the device gets a mention alongside the iPhones, Samsung Galaxy S series of this world. Even if some person sentiments won’t give the device a chance, it’s exorbitant price tag will put it in that conversation of ‘2018 best smartphones’. The 6.39 inches Mate 20 Pro stands at €1049 (£899 in the UK and equivalent to $1,220).

The device shares all the best qualities that the Huawei Mate 20 Pro flaunts and even more. Worthy to note that the device is 6.39″ as the Pro. It has a leather + glass body which makes the device distinct. It also comes in a 128GB/512GB variant. 4200mAh battery while reverse charging is still in check, in-display fingerprint, 3D face unlock are also still intact.

At the end of the day, the Porsche design is a special edition that is almost exactly like the pro version but will some extra few features. Prepare some €1,695 or €2,095 for the 512GB if you want to get the Porsche design.
