Huawei finally launched its long-awaited 2020 flagship device, the P40 series and although the devices will lack Google Play Services, the company is depending on its own mobile services for these devices and upcoming as well. The Huawei newest P series devices are, P40, P40 Pro, and P40 Pro Plus.

The company already launched P40 Lite, the first member of the P40 series in February 2020 and now presenting the top-end P40 devices to the world.

Huawei P40 comes with a hole-punch display with 60Hz on the standard version and 90Hz on the Pro versions, giving you a smoother experience. The P40 and P40 Pro features a glass protection on the rear while the most premium in the series uses a ceramic back said to be scratch resistant.

All three device uses an in-display fingerprint sensor, the standard P40 houses a triple-camera setup on the rear, Pro comes with a quad-camera setup and the Pro Plus has a Penta-camera setup, all housed in a “pretty” huge bump which is quite similar to that of the Samsung Galaxy 20 device.

The camera cutout on the P40 device is pretty huge as well and I don’t really like it. A small hole punch like the Galaxy S2 would have been great or rather a pop-up camera. Huawei P40 also features IP53 water and dust resistant, while the Pro versions get an IP68-rated.

In the camera department, all three models boast of a 50MP f/1.9 main camera with OIS. This sensor packs an RYYB colour filter for better low-light performance and is capable of taking pixel-binned 12.5MP shots.

The 50MP main camera is assisted by a 16MP ultra-wide camera and an 8MP 3x telephoto snapper on the standard version, a 40MP ultra-wide shooter, a 12MP 5X periscope sensor with an RYYB and swaps out the 8MP 3x telephoto lens for a 3D ToF camera on the Pro version. The P40 Pro plus, however, houses all camera combination on the standard and Pro version but swaps out the 12MP periscope sensor for an 8MP periscope sensor.

As for the selfie snapper, a 32MP sensor is fixed on all three devices, however, the P40 Pro and Pro Plus comes with autofocus and IR face unlocking as extras.

Huawei P40 Hardware And Software

All three devices are powered by Huawei’s 5G Kirin 990 chipset, 8GB RAM and up to 512GB onboard storage which can further be expandable via new generation Nano Memory cards.

Huawei P40 runs EMUI 10.1 based on the latest Android 10 OS. EMUI 10.1 comes with Celia virtual assistant, AppGallery, Huawei Search, browser and several other apps from Huawei to replace Google’s core apps.

In terms of battery power, the standard P40 is fueled by a 3,800mAh battery with 22.5W wired charging, the P40 Pro and P40 Pro Plus offer 40W wired charging and 40W wireless charging.
