After launching the Helio G70 and G80 gaming Soc for budget phones in February 2020, MediaTek has now launched a successor to the Helio G80, the Helio G85 Soc. The all-new gaming Soc made its debut on the newly launched Redmi Note 9 device which went global 2days ago.

According to the available details of this new Soc, there seems to be no difference between the Helio G80 and G85 as both use a 12nm process technology, an octa-core CPU (2x Cortex-A75 cores clocked at 2.0GHz and 6x Cortex-A55 cores whose clock speed is unknown)

One noticeable difference, however, is the GPU clock speed. While the Helio G80 Mali G52 MC22 GPU is clocked at 950MHz, that of the Helio G85 is clocked at 1000MHz according to the official spec sheet of the Redmi Note 9. That is a 50MHz increase over that of the Helio G80. Not pretty much of an improvement, right?

Well, MediaTek has released a full spec sheet for the new chipset to give us more details on the new Helio G85 Soc and its differences with its predecessor.
