MediaTek Launches Helio G70 And G80 Mid-range Gaming Chipset

In July 2019, MediaTek announced its first gaming chipset for mid-range smartphones, the Helio G90 chipset. Helio G90 or G90T first debuted on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro and still the only device running the gaming chipset. While MediaTek is still trying to convince more OEMs to use the Helio gaming chipset, it brings two new gaming chipset to the table, Helio G70 and Helio G80.

As you may have already guessed, the all-new MediaTek Helio G70 and G80 chipsets are lesser versions to the G90 Chipset. You can call it a stripped-down version or a downgrade, however, the new gaming chipset is designed for more affordable gaming smartphones.

While the G90 runs an octa-core, 2x 2.05 GHz Cortex-A76 and 6x 2.0 GHz Cortex-A55 cores, the G70 and G80 runs an octa-core, 2x Cortex-A75 and 6x Cortex-A55 cores at slower clock rates. As for the GPU, a Mali G52 MC2 and with slower LPDDR4x RAM will be integrated to deliver the best gaming performance on smartphones with lower 1080p resolutions instead of any QHD or 4K UHD models.

The Helio G70 and G80 will also come with HyperEngine support, for rapid automatic switching between Wi-Fi and LTE and improved resource management between the CPU, GPU, and RAM. The feature is designed to optimize gameplay and prevent interruptions.

“The smartphone gaming market is expanding, and MediaTek’s G series chipsets deliver powerful performance and game-play features that let device makers innovate and cater to consumer gaming demands,” said Dr Yenchi Lee, assistant general manager of MediaTek’s wireless business unit.
