The Foldable smartphones niche is gradually developing and it calls for comparison as manufacturers are now moving towards a new form factor. In November 2019, Motorola launched a foldable phone, a remake of the iconic Motorola Razr and two days ago, the world witnessed another foldable smartphone, Galaxy Z Flip from the South Korean tech giant itself, Samsung.
Samsung initially was the first manufacturer to put a foldable smartphone in the market that people could actually use in 2019, the Galaxy Fold, and two months after, Huawei released the Mate X foldable smartphone in China. While the Galaxy Fold has received several reviews and critics, Mate X seems to be hiding in the shadows.
More importantly, let’s see how Motorola Razr 2019 and the Galaxy Z Flip compare in specs and features

Motorola Razr 2019 features a foldable P-OLED capacitive display or POLED display while the Galaxy Z Flip uses a Foldable Dynamic AMOLED capacitive display. Moto Razr gets a 6.2-inch display since it adopts the iconic Moto Razr design, Galaxy Z Flip, however, offers a 6.7-inch display, that is a 0.5-inch difference in size.
Bothe device comes with a secondary display (a cover display) on the outside, while the Galaxy Z Flip uses a 1.1-inch Super AMOLED secondary display, Motorola Razr is equipped with a bigger 2.7-inch G-OLED display. Both display, however, can be used as a viewfinder for the smartphone camera.
Moto Razr 2019 comes with a front-mounted fingerprint sensor and a side-mounted fingerprint is found on the Galaxy Z Flip.
In the Camera department, Samsung Galaxy Fip boasts of a dual 12MP camera while Motorola Razr 2019 houses a single 12MP main camera. For the selfie cam, Galaxy Z Flip uses a 10MP on its hole-punch display, as for Motorola Razr 2019, a 5MP is situated on the traditional notch cutout.
There is a huge difference with it comes to the performance of both devices, for some reasons which I don’t seem to understand, Moto Razr 2019 is powered by a mid-range Snapdragon 710 while the Galaxy Z Flip comes which a much better processor, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+. While both devices will perform well, it’s clear that the Galaxy Z Flip will do better when it meets serious multi-tasking.
Talk about multi-tasking, Moto Razr 2019 Snapdragon 710 is assisted by 6GB RAM and 128GB storage and the Galaxy Z Flip gets more juice with 8GB RAM addition + 256GB storage.
Moto Razr 2019 runs Android 9 Pie, that makes sense as Android 10 was only just launched two months earlier before the device and we’re not surprised that the Galaxy Z Flip runs the latest Android 10 OS either.
Under the hood, there’s a 3,00mAh battery on te Galaxy Z Flip and a 2150mAh battery on Moto Razr 2019, both with 15W fast charging.
Now, lets put both devices specs side by side.

Motorola Razr 2019 Vs Samsung Galaxy Z Flip Pricing
In terms of pricing, Moto Razr seems to be more expensive even though it offers mid-range chip, it is priced for about $1,735 (approx N630,000) while Galaxy Z Flip is price $1,679 (approx N609,477).
Conclusion
Both devices made a good entry, both the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip offers more value for the money. For a $1,735 smartphone, I believe Snapdragon 710 wasn’t the best option. One thing I did leave out though it is the screen durability, Motorola Razr seems to have failed in some testing, but we’re waiting to see how the Galaxy Z Flip will perform.
