Popular Chinese company OnePlus has finally launched its most anticipated 2020 flagship phones called the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro in an online event on Tuesday. The all-new OnePlus 8 device succeeds last year’s OnePlus 7 and comes after tech giant like Samsung, Huawei and Xiaomi have pressed forward to bring the premium device in 2020 despite the ongoing pandemic. Just yesterday, ZTE Nubia sub-brand announced the world’s first 144Hz screen smartphone, and 202 is not far spent, we hope to see more excitements before the end of the year.
The OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro device features an aesthetic design, display a gradient finish, and meets an IP68 rated water resistance. The devices come with a hole-punch display, replacing the pop-up camera mechanism on its predecessor, the OnePlus 7. The standard OnePlus 8 screen has a 90Hz fluid AMOLED display, while the 8 Pro houses a fluid AMOLED 120Hz display, both paired with 3D Corning’s Gorilla Glass Protection on the front and rear.

While the standard OnePlus 8 comes with tiny bezels, OnePlus 8 Pro uses Samsung’s Galaxy edge design leaving tiny bezels on the top and bottom of the device only. The device also comes with HDR10+ support and continues with the in-display fingerprint sensor tradition.

One of the most interesting aspect of the OnePlus 8 device is its dedicated MEMC chip that transforms standard videos at 24fps up to 120 fps. The company says that it is ideal for watching sports and action-packed content since MEMC reduces motion blur, stuttering, and ghosting for unmatched clarity.

Going to the camera segment, the standard version of the device bags a triple rear camera setup on the rear + LED flash and the Pro version houses a quad-camera setup. The camera setup on the OnePlus 8 Pro uniquely differentiates it from the standard version. Both devices boast of a 48MP main camera, the standard version is paired with a 16MP 116° ultra-wide-angle camera and a 2MP macro sensor while the Pro version is paired with a 48MP 120° ultra-wide-angle camera with 3cm macro mode, an 8MP 3X Telephoto Camera that also supports 30x digital zoom, OIS and a 5MP mono sensor. On the selfie side, both devices uses a 16MP Sony IMX471 sensor.
The OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro device are both powered by an Octa-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC with X55 5G modem that supports both NSA and SA 5G, up to 12GB of RAM, 256GB onboard storage and runs OygenOS 10 based on the latest Android 10.0 out of the box. The standard OnePlus 8 is fueled by a 4300mAh battery that comes with support for Warp Charge 30T fast charging which is said to do 1% to 50% in just 22 minutes and the Pro is housed by a 4510mAh battery also with Warp Charge 30T fast charging and will do 1% to 50% in just 23 minutes.
