Xiaomi Launches Redmi K30 5G Racing Edition – First Phone with Snapdragon 768G

Xiaomi has just added a new member to its Redmi K30 series, the Redmi K30 5G Racing Edition. This is coming after Xiaomi launched Snapdragon 865 powered Redmi K30 Pro and K30 Pro Zoom in March 2020 and the Redmi K30 and K30 5G in December 2019. The Redmi K30 5G racing edition launches with Qualcomm’s latest mid-range 5G Soc, the Snapdragon 768G, which also makes the device the world’s first Snapdragon 768G smartphone.

The device retains the design and some features of the base model, a 6.67-inch FHD+ hole-punch screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. It has a screen resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels and a 20:9 aspect ratio. It houses a dual camera on the screen for selfie shots (20MP main, assisted by a 2MP depth sensor) and a quad-camera setup on the rear. The Snapdragon 768G Soc is the major difference between the Redmi K30 racing edition and the base model. The base model runs a 4G Snapdragon 730G built on 8nm process technology, same as the Snapdragon 730 on the MI 9T device. The racing edition, on the other hand, comes with a 5G-enabled processor built on a 7nm process technology, 2.4GHz clock speed and 2.8GHz max turbo. It is basically an upgrade over the Snapdragon 765 and 765G Soc, also bringing about 15% boost ups to the Adreno 620 GPU.

The Snapdragon 768G uses an integrated 5G modem, making the Redmi K30 Racing Edition compatible with dual-mode SA/NSA 5G. As for the memory, the device comes with 6GB of RAM and 128GB storage. It uses a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and housed by a 4,500mAh battery with supports for 30W fast charging.

Not long, we saw a report on the upcoming flagship Soc, the Snapdragon 875 which is expected to be built on a 5nm process and deliver a better performance than the current Snapdragon 665 Soc.
