If you’ve been current in the tech space, you should know about the ongoing Huawei US trade ban. Back in 2019, the US placed a ban on Huawei, restricting the Chinese company to do business with US companies which also include the tech giant Google. The ban has revoked Huawei’s right to use Google Apps and services on its smartphones, forcing the Chinese company to start building a space where it can survive. Huawei went ahead to launch it own mobile services, app store, search app and more recently it introduced Celia assistant to replace Google Assistant.
It may be hard for Huawei to push through without Google’s Mobile Services on its devices but it doesn’t look like Google wants Huawei trade ban to continue and wants its apps back on Huawei phones. The search giant already applied for a license to continue doing business with Huaweii as well as other US tech companies.
Unfortunately, the trade ban doesn’t appear to be getting lifted soon as the US President Trump has extended the ban with an extra one year.
Given the executive order…
U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday extended for another year an executive order signed in May 2019 declaring a national emergency and barring U.S. companies from using telecommunications equipment made by firms posing a national security risk.
The order invoked the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, which gives the president the authority to regulate commerce in response to a national emergency that threatens the United States. Members of Congress said Trump’s 2019 order was squarely aimed at Chinese companies like Huawei Technologies Co and ZTE Corp.
The extended ban will continue to hinder Huawei’s smartphone sales,on the other hand, it will further push Huawei into building its own app ecosystem that doesn’t rely on Google Services.
Its sad that Huawei phones have come this way
