WhatsApp, as we all know, is undoubtedly the best instant messaging app and continues to grow even stronger every day. Two years ago the company recorded 500 million active users and the number has grown tremendously since then, WhatsApp now boasts of over 2 billion active users. This stats were published yesterday in WhatsApp official blog.

The company who had reportedly been working to introduced ads in the chat app some time ago and had got users worried over privacy issues dropped the project and promised it won’t compromise its security as this would make users feel less secured on the chat app.

Strong encryption acts like an unbreakable digital lock that keeps the information you send over WhatsApp secure, helping protect you from hackers and criminals. Messages are only kept on your phone, and no one in between can read your messages or listen to your calls, not even us. Your private conversations stay between you.WhatsApp

The company also added that encryption, which prevents anyone, including Facebook, from reading users’ messages, is good for user privacy, however, it also makes it harder for law enforcement to track and monitor some criminal behaviour.

WhatsApp CEO Will Cathcart says that the company has no plans to disable encryption on its service. “For all of human history, people have been able to communicate privately with each other, and we don’t think that should go away in modern society,” he told The Wall Street Journal. However, the CEO added that WhatsApp will provide metadata when it is useful for an investigation.

The parent company Facebook, on the other hand, is also working to encrypt all of its messaging apps, including Messenger and Instagram.

Weeks earlier, WhatsApp introduced a dark mode to its platform which is currently only available to beta users and expected to roll it out globally in the coming weeks to all users on both iOS and Android platform.
