Windows 10 has drastically changed since it made public debut in July 2015. Microsoft has been working and continuously improving user experience with every windows update.
Windows 10 October 2018 Update New Features
Windows 10 October 2018 update brings some new feature and as it seems, the biggest update in the update is the new cloud-powered clipboard that lets Windows 10 users copy and paste content across the devices, and store a history of copied content in the cloud.
Microsoft has also released the new Your Phone App companion that lets you instantly access pictures and texts from your Android phone on your Windows computer. with the Windows 10 October 2018 Update.
As we all know, October 2018 update is scheduled to be delivered across machines running Windows 10 in phases and controlled manner. So, not all users will receive this update immediately, however, most users across the world will get to see the update after global rollout in the upcoming week.
Some of the notable features in the update are;
YOUR PHONE
I guess some of us are already familiar with phone companion with allows you sync your phone directly with PC. Your Phone first appeared with the Windows 10 creator update and it seems the tech giant is focusing on making Android and iOS phones work better with Windows 10.
Like I have said earlier, the new Your Phone app is designed to make communication between your PC and phone a lot easy. Your Phone lets you sync pictures and texts from Android and makes it easier to pull a photo from your device.
At the moment this feature is limited to Android smartphones, however, Microsoft says it’s working to bring full compatibility of Your Phone features on iPhones too.
CLOUD CLIPBOARD
The new cloud clipboard saves all your copied content on the cloud and you can access a full history of your clipboard by using the Windows + V keyboard shortcut. This will sync clipboard data across all your Windows 10 devices and it’s particularly useful if you have a Windows 10 PC at home or work, so when you copy a data to your clipboard, you can easily pick up where you left off.
Microsoft is also working to bring the cloud clipboard support to SwiftKey app in the future. This will allow you to copy and paste data between a mobile device and Windows 10.
DARK THEME FOR FILE EXPLOR
The dark mode is one of my favourite feature in Windows 10. Until now the dark mode feature has been limited to Windows 10 settings panel and some Microsoft apps while the file explorer was left out. But now Microsoft has extended the dark mode to the File Explorer with the October 2018 Update.
With the dark theme extended to file explorer, users can change from the usual white background. So, if you’re a fan of a dark theme you, you’ll be getting the experience in a few weeks.
NEW SCREENSHOT TOOL
A few days ago, I wrote a guide on how to take a screenshot on PC. Now Microsoft is improving the way you can take screenshots With Windows 10 October 2018 Update.
When Microsoft introduced Windows Ink in Windows 10 it was bundled with Screen Sketch feature. Screen sketch is now a separate app that can take screenshots and also offers a few other customization options. To use the Screen sketch feature, use the newly assigned key combination Winkey + shift + S keyboard. Also, you can assign the prntscr keyboard button to this new tool.
POWER USAGE IN TASK MANAGER
Microsoft has added a new column in the Task manager that now allows seeing the apps that consume more power in Windows 10. When you launch the Task Manager, you’ll find a new column power usage, this shows you the level of power that is being used and you can close apps that are drawing a lot of battery life too.
NEW GAME BAR FEATURES
Game Mode is one of the biggest features that has hit the Windows 10 OS. With Game Mode came Game Bar, a feature that lets users record and stream games. However, game lovers will be the only set of people that will find this feature really interesting. Now, Microsoft has added some new features to the Game Bar with Windows 10 October 2018 update.
With the added features, gamers can now see CPU and GPU usage alongside the average fps of a game. This feature is particularly useful for gamers streaming games, they’ll be able to see if the machine is running slow. Game Bar also brings better audio control with you stream games and you can manage what’s being captured when you take a clip.
Additionally, Microsoft has added a new feature in the Edge browser, you can now make text bigger across Windows 10, better HDR support and search previews.
