Xiaomi’s Latest Mid-range Phone Features 120Hz Display, Huge Battery, No 5G

Xiaomi is best known for its affordable phones which usually come under the Redmi label. The Redmi Note 9 series is the latest and the companies best-performing device in the Redmi series till date. Xiaomi as launched many other devices under the Redmi label this year and other labels as well including the recently launched Mi 10 Ultra flagship phone. The company, however, has just launched a new affordable phone, not under the Redmi label but from it subbrand Pocophone, the Poco X3 NFC.

The Poco X3 NFC is the latest affordable phone from Xiaomi to features a 120Hz display, houses a huge battery but miss out 5G. I guess that’s reasonable given the price of this device since 5G SoC would attract more money, the company decided to stick to its cheap tradition and swapped out 5G. The device also displays some similarities with its predecessor and comes with some notable upgrades as well.

The all-new Poco X3 NFC is built around a 6.67-inch (1080 × 2400 pixels) Full HD+ 20:9 LCD screen with 3.8mm, punch-hole screen, 120Hz refresh rate with Dynamic switching between 120Hz, 90Hz, 60Hz or 50Hz and has 240Hz touch sampling rate. The device uses corning’s Gorilla Glass 5 protection on the front and a polycarbonate rear finish and rated IP53 compliant for water and dust splashes.

It features a quad-camera setup on the rear as well and there are a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and IR Blaster on the top of the device. The X3 NFC comes with dual stereo speakers – one at the top which also serves as the earpiece, and another at the bottom, both having a 4cc-equivalent cavity, a 1cc-equivalent respectivetly.

The Poco X3 NFC is powered by an octa-core (2.3GHz Dual + 1.8GHz Hexa Kryo 470 CPUs) Snapdragon 732G 8nm Mobile Platform with Adreno 618 GPU. The Snapdragon 732G is pared by 6GB of RAM and up to 128GB (UFS 2.1) storage which can be expanded up to 256GB. The device also comes with a liquid cooling 1.0 Plus with copper heat pipe and dual graphite to reduce the temperature by up to 6° C, and runs MIUI 12 based Android 10 on top.

The quad rear camera includes a 64MP Sony IMX682 sensor main camera, assisted by a 13MP 119° ultra-wide sensor with 1.12μm, 2MP depth and 2MP 4cm macro sensor with 1.75μm;20MP front-facing camera with f/2.2 aperture with LED Flash. As for the selfie snapper, there is a 20 MP f/2.2 with some pixel binning technology for better selfies in daylight. The cameras come with some new AI features like Skyscraping 3.0, the obligatory Night Mode, ShootSteady video to artificially stabilize any clip.

All the goodness of this device rest on a 5160mAh battery capacity that supports a 33W fast charging and can charge your phone from 0 to 62% in 30 minutes and 100% in 65 minutes. Other features aside the NFC include Dual 4G VoLTE, Wlan, GPS, VoWiFi, Infrared port, Bluetooth 5.1, Radio, USB Type-C and sensor onboard include accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass and the side-mounted fingerprint sensor.

The Poco X3 NFC will come in Shadow Gray and Cobalt Blue colour options and will cost €229 (NGN 104,612) for 6GB /64GB memory option and €269 (NGN 122,884) for 6GB/128GB option.

Availability begins today, September 8, will continue through September 11, and early bird units will be even cheaper – €199 or €249, depending on the storage. You can get the device from Aliexpress, Amazon and other online stores.
